staff wellbeing toolkit adapted by schools to fully online delivery

NESLI has adapted the Staff Wellbeing Toolkit so that it can be delivered online, if preferred, in the wake of COVID-19.

The move comes as increasing pressure on teachers, uncertainty around how education will be delivered and calls for self-isolation put more pressure on teachers’ health and wellbeing than ever before.

The toolkit is a proven intervention designed to improve the health and wellbeing of teachers, who are at a high risk of suffering from severe stress, burn out and mental ill-health. The program lends itself to both face-to-face or fully online delivery, with programs like Zoom and Microsoft Teams making the transition possible.

Toolkit leaders are currently adapting the workshops to online delivery with great success. Renae is leading the program at her school, and said of the transition, “because of COVID-19 restrictions we have used online delivery for the first two modules and it has proved very effective.”

A number of toolkit leaders cite concern for the wellbeing of their staff as their primary reason for undertaking the toolkit. Toolkit leader Mary Ellen said, “the most valuable resource we have is our people. It’s a priority to invest in their long-term health and wellbeing. Partnering with NESLI and providing the Staff Wellbeing Toolkit is a practical way to demonstrate that we value and support our staff to enjoy a sustainable career.”

Paul Mears, Director of NESLI AU/NZ, said of the transition, “here at NESLI, our focus first and foremost is to support teachers and school leaders. The Staff Wellbeing Toolkit is a high impact program designed to support teachers' wellbeing and importantly, build levels of social capital amongst school staff.”

“I am proud of the individual toolkit leaders who have quickly adapted the program to fully online delivery. This means we are able to support teachers safely through an incredibly challenging time where the demands on teachers are excessive.”

NESLI also offers fully online and university accredited leadership development programs for school leaders.
