Tom Sexton​

Program Director

Tom Sexton has been involved in education for over 30 years, 24 years in senior leadership positions, 13 years as principal of two turnaround schools and 11 in system leadership as Assistant Director: Planning and Resources. In this role, Tom has been involved in approximately 200 capital works programs, worth over $200M, experiences include; acquiring land, designing new schools, redesigning existing schools with a heavy emphasis on linking pedagogy and contemporary educational facility design, coupled with integration of digital technology. His ability to enthusiastically engage with key stakeholders in order to create exceptional educational spaces is a key strength and many of Tom’s projects have been recognised with a number of Association of Learning Environments awards.

Tom was the architect behind one of Australia’s first system wide one-to-one digital technology roll outs. He passionate about leadership development and school improvement. Tom was instrumental in converting school review processes from paper based to digital.

Tom holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Australian Institute of Education, a Graduate Diploma in Computing in Education, Charles Sturt University; Diploma of Teaching, Institute of Catholic Education; and Certificate of Achievement, Surviving Disruptive Technologies, University of Maryland, Washington, USA. Tom was a finalist in the Victorian Principal of the year.

Tom brings an international perspective from leading, speaking and participating in international study tours to Canada, Singapore, Ireland and Finland. Tom is an experienced presenter at conferences, professional learning days and a facilitator of community engagement sessions.

Tom has strong relational skills, is highly organised and has an ability to engage with a broad range of stakeholders. He has a fundamental belief that all children can learn and that schools and school systems have the responsibility to provide the best possible environment to stimulate and enhance learning.
